Zurich Challengers and Therwil Flyers headline Weekend Games

Challengers and Flyers headline weekend games
On Saturday, the Challengers(2-0) travel to Therwil to take on the Flyers(2-0) in this weekend’s premier match-up. The Flyers, having surprisingly struggled last week against the Sissach Frogs, will need to play much better if they expect to keep their clean slate. The Challengers, after having easily defeated the Reussbuehl Eagles, will find out if their offseason acquisitions will really pay dividends this year.  They look to send a message they are back in the hunt for the playoffs this weekend. They weren’t really tested last weekend, but surely will be Saturday. Split in Therwil… Flyers win game 1, 7-4; Challengers in game 2, 5-2.

Eagles and Rainbows look to get first wins in Embrach
Embrach(0-2), a hard luck loser last time out against the Indians, hope to get on the winning track against at home against the Eagles. The Eagles, easily handled last week by the Challengers, hope they can find some offense somewhere, as they scored only three runs in their doubleheader. The Rainbows fought hard against last season’s vice-champion, but came up just short. This weekend should be a good chance for them to climb back to .500! Embrach wins both at home… 9-3, 10-3.

Indians host Barracudas in Lausanne
The Lausanne Indians(3-1), having rebounded with two big wins last week vs. Embrach, take on the Zurich Barracudas(0-2). The Indians fought for two victories against the newly promoted Rainbows, but have added three new players to their roster. Rafael De Frietes rejoins the Indians along with David Marte Torres and Stefane Peyrin. De Frietes will undoubtedly help the Indians on both sides of the ball. The Barracudas were handled rather easily last week in Bern, and will have a lot of ground to make up if they don’t take care of things this weekend. ‘Cudas in game 1, 10-7: Indians win game 2, 7-5.

Cards and Frogs in Bern on Sunday
The Sissach Frogs(0-2), come to Bern to take on the Cardinals(3-0), Sunday at the Allmend. The Frogs, my biggest surprise of the weekend after taking the Flyers to the limit, look for more of the same against the defending champs. Although they played well, I’m sure they feel they should have won at least on game last week. This should make the Cards aware that they need to bring their best if they are to go to 5-0. The Cardinals did look pretty strong in defeating the Barracudas, but the injury bug has hit the team. Alex Cruz Tifa (finger), Philip Kanel (broken leg), are both out. John Baum (head), and Rudy Vargas (back), are both questionable. Cards still have just enough to sweep Frogs… 8-2, 10-3.
