On Saturday, the Baracudas were looking to win the championship at home but the Therwil Flyers defeated the Zurich Barracudas in closely played 3-2 game to force a game five showdown in Therwil. The Flyers backed behind the tremendous pitching effort from Jack Shannon who struck out seven of the last nine batters he faced to squash any Barracuda hopes of winning game four.
On Sunday, with the Championship on the line, the Barracudas did not disappoint their fans who travelled to Therwil in anticipation of a championship. The Barracudas pounded out 14 hits as they dominated the game from the start winning by a score of 12-5. Series MVP Andi Rüesch who once again pitched his heart out and executed the game plan notched his second series win. Rüesch pitched 8 2/3 innings keeping the Flyer bats silent by allowing only six hits and three earned runs. Roger Savoldelli came in to get the last out with the bases loaded to seal the victory for the Barracudas. Josh Crouse was the bus driver for the offense getting four knocks including a Home Run, two doubles and a single.
Roger Savoldelli after 25 years of playing in Swiss baseball announced his retirement from active playing. Savoldelli is one of the true legends of Swiss baseball who brings a tremendous passion for the game and an amazing competitive spirit. Savoldelli first learned baseball on a trip to the United States as a 18 year old and fell in love with the sport. He came back to Switzerland and launched his career. Swiss baseball is lucky to have such a caring and passionate player who will continue with the program and will be the pitching coach for the U15 National team in 2016.
