The picture is pretty clear after day five of the Final Olympic Qualifying Tournament. South Korea won their fifth game and secured a spot in the top three easily.
Chinese Taipei also should have clinched a berth, as they are now two games in front of Australia, Germany and Mexico. They have won against all three and the tiebreaker in a three-way tie with Canada and Australia is in their favor too.
Canada is needs just one win against either South Korea tomorrow or Germany on Friday to secure a spot.
Australia and Germany have to win the remaining games and have to hope that Canada loses both of theirs. The outcome of a three-way tie would depend on the result of the last game, between Germany and Canada. Australia does own the tiebreaker in a three-way tie with Mexico.
They are already out because they have lost both games against Chinese Taipei and Canada. In addition in a three-way tie with Canada and Australia, the latter would have the edge.
Spain and South Africa are eliminated anyway as they are a combined 1-9.
So tomorrow both, Australia and Germany, have to win against Spain and Mexico. Plus, Canada has to lose against South Korea.
We hope we did it right. Feel free to correct us in the comments section.
The second tiebreaker in a three-way-tie is the quotient of allowed runs to defensive innings in games against each other.
