Cuba – Chinese Taipei 3-1
Cuba improved to 3-1 in the 2013 World Port Tournament with a 3-1 victory over Chinese Taipei on Thursday evening. Alexander Malleta highlighted the evening with a solo home run in the sixth – the first long ball in the tournament. He already had driven in Jose Fernandez with a single in the fourth to finish with two RBI. Yadiel Hernandez plated the first run with a single in the second.
Chinese Taipei didn’t score until a sac fly by Chia Wei Huang in the seventh. Otherwise Cuba’s pitchers Vladimir Banos, Ismel Jimenez and Rasiel Iglesias were in full control. Banos got the win, allowing just one run on four hits and a walk in 7 1/3 innings, while striking out seven. Meng Chen Fan took the loss, surrendering three runs (2 ER) on seven hits in 7 1/3 innings.
