The World team has won the inaugural edition of the All Star game in the Australian Baseball League on Wednesday. They defeated Team Australia 8-5. Four early runs in the first three innings got them the lead, which was backed up by four more in the seventh and eighth after Australia had cut the deficit to a run. Denny Almonte and Tyler Collins homered for the World All Stars; Joshua Roberts went deep for Australia. James McOwen and Brian Burgamy picked up three hits apiece for Team World, as well as Justin Huber for Australia.
On the mound the lone European participant, Italian right-hander Alex Maestri, pitched one scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit and striking out a batter. Mike McGuire got the win, Dae Sung Koo the save. Shane Lindsay was handed the loss. Dushan Ruzic (1 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB) also took the mound for Australia. Other players well known in European baseball in the game were Mitchell Graham and Tom Brice, wearing the colors of Australia.
