Taiwan needed just three runs in the fourth to beat a strong German team on Friday by a score of 3-2. Simon Guehring cut the deficit to a run with a two-run double in the eighth, but the squad of head coach Greg Frady couldn’t push the tying run over the plate. Wen Hao Cheng (W) received the win in relief. Tim Henkenjohann (L) issued five hits, three runs (2 ER) and three bb in five innings. Philipp Hoffschild followed by retiring all nine batters he faced.

Cuba kept its chances to make the World Port Tournament final alive, shutting out the Netherlands 2-0 on Friday evening. Yadier Pedroso (W) and Ismel Jimenez combined to allow ten hits and six walks, but somehow managed to keep the scoreboard clean. A RBI single by Rusney Castillo and a sac fly by Donal Duarte plated the two lone runs in the fourth. Rob Cordemans (L) was charged with five hits, two runs and three bb in eight innings.
