The Netherlands shut out Curacao 9-0 in the afternoon game at the World Port Tournament in Rotterdam on Saturday. Eight runs between the second and the fourth decided the outcome early, as the Dutch team kept hopes alive to reach the final with a German win over Cuba in the night game. Dwayne Kemp led the offense, going 4-for-6 with two runs and a RBI. Jeffrey Arends and Bas de Jong combined for four RBI. David Bergman (W) allowed three hits and a walk in five scoreless innings. Duko Jansen (L) issued four hits, two runs and two bb in 1 2/3 innings.

But the dreams of the Netherlands ended a few hours later, as Cuba narrowly beat Germany 1-0 in the last round-robin game at the WPT 2011. Yasel Puig, who had walked, scored the lone run of the game on a bunt by Erisbe Arruebarruena in the top of the seventh. Otherwise they couldn’t do anything against a strong German team. Misael Siverio (W) allowed five hits and a walk in six scoreless innings. Andre Hughes (L) surrendered six hits, an unearned run and a bb in eight frames. An error by him on a sac bunt by William Saavedra set up the game-deciding play. Cuba is going to play in the title game against Taiwan on Sunday afternoon. Germany finishes the tournament with a 1-7 record, but showed a strong performance in each of the eight games.
