Team USA announced a 24-man-roster for the World Cup in Taipei in November. It consists mostly of minor league players, who played in triple and double A teams. The most prominent names are:
- Pitcher Jeff KARSTENS, who started several games for the New York Yankees in 2006 and 2007.
- Third baseman Andy LA ROCHE and outfielder Delwyn YOUNG of the LA Dodgers. Both played for the Major League team this year.
- Third baseman Evan LONGORIA from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He is listed as seventh best prospect in all of baseball by Baseball America.
- First baseman Jay BRUCE of the Cincinnati Reds organization was recently named Minor League Player of the year.
- Outfielder Colby RASMUS was a starter for the St. Louis Cardinals this summer.
Manager is Davey JOHNSON. He will be supported by hitting coach Reggie Smith and pitching coach Marcel LACHEMAN
Team USA plays in group A against Chinese Taipei, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Panama, South Africa and Spain. They finished in ninth place 2005 at the World Cup in the Netherlands.
