World Baseball Classic Participants facing MLB Teams in Spring Training

On Wednesday Major League Baseball released the schedule for 2013 Spring Training. While the national teams playing in Taichung, Taiwan and Fukuoka, Japan missing out on the opportunity prior to the first round, the other eight teams are warming up for the 2013 World Baseball Classic against MLB teams in Spring Training. From a European standpoint Italy is facing the Oakland Athletics and the Los Angeles Angels, while Spain takes on the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Baltimore Orioles on March 5 and 6.

Full Spring Training Schedule for World Baseball Classic Teams:

Tuesday, March 5

  • Miami Marlins – Venezuela (time to be determined, Jupiter)
  • Philadelphia Phillies – Dominican Republic (1.05pm, Clearwater)
  • Pittsburgh Pirates – Spain (1.05pm, Bradenton)
  • Milwaukee Brewers – Canada (3.05pm, Phoenix)
  • Oakland Athletics – Italy (3.05pm, Phoenix)
  • Chicago White Sox – USA (3.05pm, Glendale)
  • Boston Red Sox – Puerto Rico (7.05pm, Ft. Myers)
  • Arizona Diamondbacks – Mexico (9.10pm, Scottsdale)

Wednesday, March 6

  • Minnesota Twins – Puerto Rico (12.05pm, Lee County)
  • New York Yankees – Dominican Republic (1.05pm, Tampa)
  • Baltimore Orioles – Spain (1.05pm, Sarasota)
  • New York Mets – Venezuela (1.10pm, Port St. Lucie)

A second set of exhibition games for the advancing teams from the Asia pools will be played against Cactus League MLB teams on March 14 and 15 before heading to San Francisco for the semi-finals and the championship game of the 2013 World Baseball Classic.
