The Women’s Softball World Championship in Surrey, Canada continued on Saturday with day two of the first round. 15 games were on the schedule. Europe’s focus was on the duel between the Netherlands the Czech Republic. After the forfeit in the opener the Dutch team entered the field in Surrey with a 2-0 shutout over their European opponents, who had started with a 0-1 loss to the Philippines. Eva Voortman and Ginger de Weert out-dueled Veronika Peckova, conceding only one hit and a walk in seven combined innings. Britt Vonk and Damishah Charles scored both runs.
In other games Austria and Serbia lost 0-15 to Team USA respective Mexico. Italy crushed Kenya by the same result. China prevailed 5-1 over Greece. Australia shut out Switzerland 12-0. Great Britain celebrated their first win with a 13-1 victory over Uganda. Canada downed Ireland 14-0, while Israel fell 0-19 to Brazil. Puerto Rico, Cuba, Japan, Ecuador, New Zealand and the Philippines also were day-two winners.
