It was not an easy assignment for Shairon Martis on Tuesday in the MLB, but he did a pretty decent job. The Nationals starter draw the Yankees in his latest outing and allowed four hits, two runs (1 ER) and five walks in six innings. He left the game with a 3-2 lead after Anderson Hernandez had put Washington in front with a three-run homerun in the fifth. But the dismal bullpen struck again and the Bronx Bombers came back to win the game 5-3. Robinson Cano had four hits and two RBI. CC Sabathia pitched 7 2/3 innings for the win. Martis threw 106 pitches, only 53 of them for strikes. He now stands at 5-1 with an ERA of 4.76. It was his third straight start, where he received a no decision.
Jair Jurrjens didn’t last that long in his start against the Reds. But it was not his fault. A rain delay of about two hours cut his outing short and he had to take the loss after two innings, two hits, a run and a walk. Cincinnati had greeted him with a run in the opening frame and the Braves never were able to even tie the game, losing by a final score of 2-7. Jurrjens is now 5-5 despite an excellent ERA of 2.89.
