Panama celebrated a 7-4 comeback win over France at the World Baseball Classic Qualifier in Panama City on Saturday evening. With the victory Panama advances to the final against Colombia. The game at Rod Carew Stadium will be played on Sunday. France has been eliminated and finishes in third place ahead of Spain.
France, which had lost 2-9 against Panama in the opener, quickly got to work on Saturday. They scored two runs in the first and one in the fourth on route to a 3-0 lead. Panama changed the course of the game within a couple of batters. They rallied for four runs in the fifth and took the lead. Rene Leveret answered with a solo home run for France in the bottom half of the frame to tie it up.
But the momentum not really shifted again. Instead Panama scored three runs in the seventh and eighth to secure the victory.
