Box score

In the most lopsided game of the 2017 World Baseball Classic so far, Australia mercy ruled China 11-0 on Thursday evening at the Tokyo Dome. They improved to 1-1 and will battle against Cuba for a spot in the second round on Friday. China dropped to 0-2.

Luke Hughes gave the team from Down Under a 2-0 lead in the third with a two-run home run. Another spectacular hit – a two-run triple by Trent D’Antonio – made it 4-0 after four innings. A two-run double by Hughes and a RBI single by Tim Kennelly in the seventh and a grand slam by James Beresford in the eighth then brought the game into mercy rule territory.

Travis Blackley allowed just two hits in 4 2/3 scoreless innings for the win. Kwon Ju took the loss.
