After losing to Israel on Monday in ten innings, Korea had the better extra inning ending on their side on Thursday. They prevailed with 11-8 after ten against Chinese Taipei and avoided re-qualification for the next World Baseball Classic. Both teams still miss the second round as both lost twice to the Israel and the Netherlands.

In an offense oriented back and forth battle between two of the Asian baseball powerhouses Chinese Taipei erased an early 3-8 deficit. However in the tenth Korea got back on the board through a sac fly by Euiji Yang and a two-run home run by Taekyun Kim, as the first round host won a game at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul after all. Che-Hsuan Lin had homered for Chinese Taipei.

St. Louis Cardinals closer Seung Hwan Oh picked up the win in relief. Hung-Wen Chen took the loss.
