The Dominican Republic scored seven runs in the top of the eleventh to beat Colombia 10-3 on Sunday to conclude first-round play at the 2017 World Baseball Classic. They celebrated their third win in as many games to win the Miami pool.
A RBI double by Mauricio Ramos in the sixth and a solo home run by Jorge Alfaro in the eighth helped Colombia to erase an early 1-3 deficit. The game went into extra innings and the extra inning rule was needed to end it. The defending champion took full advantage of it, scoring seven runs in the second extra inning to seal the win. Welington Castillo and Jean Segura had crucial hits with a two-run single and a bases clearing double.
