The Washington Nationals won the 2019 World Series in Major League Baseball. The Nats defeated the Houston Astros 4-3 in the best-of-seven series, winning 6-2 in the rubber match on Wednesday. The road team won all seven games during the final series. Stephen Strasburg, who pitched in the World University Championship in Brno, Czech Republic and the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, was named World Series MVP after going 2-0, while allowing four runs in 14 1/3 innings with 14 strikeouts during the series. His postseason ERA dropped to 1.46.

Washington had only 19 wins on May 23 and then clinched a Wild Card berth late in the season. They beat the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals en route to the World Series. A team from Washington, D.C. last won a World Series in 1924, when the Senators secured the title.
