Team USA has won its second consecutive Women’s Softball World Championship. On Sunday they beat Japan 7-6 in a thrilling championship game in Chiba, Japan. The outcome was decided in the third extra-inning, as USA won inning number ten 3-2. Monica Abbott picked up the win in relief, while Yukiko Ueno took the loss in a complete game effort. Aubree Munro had the game-winning hit. Canada finished in bronze after losing 0-3 to Japan in Bronze Medal Game, which propelled Japan to the final and Team USA to the 2020 Olympic Games. Japan also is already qualified as host.
European participants Italy, Netherlands and Great Britain finished 7th, 8th and 11th in the final standings of the Women’s Softball World Championship, which featured 16 teams overall.
