Team USA solidified their position in the standings with a 9-1 victory against host China. They took a fast lead, when leadoff hitter Brian Barden moved to third after a single and an error by right fielder Fei Feng and scored on a RBI single by Nate Schierholtz. Three scoreless innings followed before the Americans put the game away by scoring eight runs between the fifth and seventh inning. China scored their lone run in the ninth, when Yang Yang homered with one out against reliever Blaine Neal.
Schierholtz drove in a total of three runs and scored two times after going two-for-three with a walk. Barden also scored twice. Taylor Teagarden drove in two.
Jake Arrieta (W 1-0) allowed just two hits and two walks in six scoreless innings. He struck out seven. Chenhao Li (L 0-1) gave up four hits, two runs and three bb in 4 2/3 innings.
