Team USA beat Canada on Saturday evening in Durham, North Carolina 7-2 to even out the exhibitions series between the two Olympic participants. Dexter Fowler opened the contest with a leadoff triple and scored three batters later on a fielding error by second baseman Stubby Clapp. A sac fly by Mike Hessman made it 2-0 after the first.
Matthew Brown, who had received a RBI on the first scoring play, added a RBI single and a two-run triple to finish with four RBI. Nate Schierholtz hit a solo homerun in the sixth and Matt LaPorta delivered a RBI double in the eighth.
Canada scored twice in the eighth on a solo shot by Jimmy Van Ostrand and a RBI double Emerson Frostad.
Trevor Cahill allowed just one hit and a walk in his start over four innings, picking up the win. Brooks McNiven was charged with eight hits, six runs (5 ER) and a base on balls in six innings.
