Team USA celebrated a 17-0 clubbing of the Netherlands on day two at the VI Women’s Baseball World Cup in Miyazaki, Japan. The Dutch team managed at least their first three hits of the tournament, as Marije Filius, Loes Asmus and Sofie van der Wiel singled against American starter Marti Sementelli.
However this was only a small success, as the Netherlands didn’t have a chance against the runner-up of the 2012 Women’s Baseball World Cup. They scored in each of the five innings played, highlighted by a seven-run second. Kendall Dawson drove in four runs. Stephanie Nicholson scored three times.
The Netherlands will conclude the first round with a matchup against Chinese Taipei on Wednesday. Afterwards they have to settle for the consolation round.
