USA beats Panama with another shutout

2007 World Cup Comments Off on USA beats Panama with another shutout

Team USA pitching staff build up their scoreless streak to 18 innings. They defeated Panama 7-0 and are now the clear favourite to finish pool A in first place.

They led by four runs after two innings and added some insurance runs later in the game.

Two of the best third base prospects in baseball did the damage for the Americans. Evan LONGORIA (2-3, 2 RBI), who hit a homerun later in the game, started the scoring in the first inning with a RBI-bloop-single over the head of the second baseman. Andy LAROCHE had three hits, two for two bases, and four RBIs in the game. Colby RASMUS and Laynce NIX scored two runs apiece.

Shortstop Angel CHAVEZ continued his hot hitting for Panama. He and Sherman OBANDO had a couple of hits each.

Matt WRIGHT (W 1-0) followed the footsteps of Jeff KARSTENS and received the win with an dominant effort. He gave up only three hits in six innings, striking out five.

Elpidio PINTO (L 0-1) gave up four runs on five hits and a walk in just 1 2/3 innings.
