Which was still a rumor last weekend got confirmed by the Italian Baseball League club UGF Fortitudo Bologna a few days later. They have signed the former Major Leaguer Edgard Clemente to play the outfield. Fortitudo is expected to add another foreign position player in the coming weeks. The 35-year-old batted .249/.276/.412 with eight homeruns, 30 runs and 32 RBI in 114 games for the Colorado Rockies and Anaheim Angels between 1998 and 2000.
Last year the Clemente played for the Broncos de Reynosa in the Mexican League. Overall he had a .278/.346/.472 batting line in 1,491 games in affiliated and independent league ball. He also played for Puerto Rico in the 2005 IBAF Baseball World Cup. Edgar Clemente is the nephew of legendary Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente, who tragically died at age 38 during a plane crash delivering aid to Nicaragua after an earthquake on December 31, 1972.
