Italy has won two European Softball Championships in two weeks. On Saturday they beat the Netherlands 5-4 in the final of the U22 European Championship in Trnava, Slovakia. Last week they captured first place at the U19 European Championship. The championship game was a back-and-forth affair, which ended on a flyout to first base with the bases loaded for the Dutch team in the bottom of the seventh.
Ireland, which had surprisingly reached the final of the U19 European Championship, celebrated another upset, claiming third place with a 6-0 shutout over Great Britain. Russia finished in fifth, Czech Republic in sixth place. Overall 16 teams (Lithuania withdrew before the tournament, but is listed in the final standings) participated in the U22 European Championship 2018.
