The U15 European Championship in Wiener Neustadt got underway on Monday. The first game day offered a big surprise, when France beat Italy 8-7 to stun one of the favorites. In other games on day one in the tough Group B Spain prevailed 19-0 over Lithuania. In Group A the Czech Republic and the Netherlands celebrated lopsided victories.
On day two on Tuesday in Group B Italy rebounded from Monday’s loss with an 11-1 blowout against Spain. Meanwhile Germany entered the competition with a 14-1 victory over Lithuania. In Group A the Dutch team narrowly avoided an upset against Poland, erasing an early 0-4 deficit in a 7-4 win. Russia lost 7-24 in a high-scoring affair against Austria.
The round robin during first-round play continues through Friday. The top two of each pool advance to the semi-finals on Saturday. On day three on Wednesday France meets Germany and Lithuania takes on Italy, while the other pool features matchups between Czech Republic and Russia, as well as Austria and Poland.
