The first round at the U15 European Championship in Wiener Neustadt is in the books. On Friday France and Germany clinched the last two semi-final spots to face the Netherlands and Czech Republic on Saturday. France edged out Spain 4-2, while Germany stunned Italy 9-5. The Netherlands and Czech Republic already had clinched first and second place in Group A on Thursday. They squared off on Friday with the Dutch winning 11-6 to secure first place.
With the U15 European Championship entering a two-year rhythm to accommodate the WBSC calendar the tournament will be shrunk to eight teams. Therefore the last four teams in this year’s campaign all will be relegated. Poland, Russia, Spain and Lithuania will have to play a U15 European Championship Qualifier next year.
