U15 European Championship in Chartres/Rouen: Recaps Day 4, July 22, 2016

The Czech Republic and host France will play in the Gold Medal Game at the U15 European Championship in Chartres and Rouen, France on Saturday. The Czech team edged out Germany in a rematch of last year’s U15 Euros finals, while the French squad downed Russia in the second semi-final. The final will be played at 5pm on Saturday, which will be broadcasted live at www.cmin.tv.

Semifinals:

Germany – Czech Republic 5-6

Defending champion Germany lost 5-6 to the Czech Republic in the first semi-final in Chartres on Friday. The Czech team took a 4-1 lead in the second and plated two more runs in the sixth after Germany had cut the deficit to a run. Germany tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh. But after Yoshua Steigert doubled in two runs with no outs to make it 5-6, the Czech defense recovered and sealed the win. Ondrej Lochman had the key hits for the Czech Republic with a pair of two-run doubles. Martin Grundmann earned the win. Maxi Siegert-Bomhard got charged with the loss.

France – Russia 17-2 (4)

France crushed Russia 17-2 in four innings in the second semi-final on Friday in Chartres. France got the lead in the first, added four runs in the third and ended the contest due to 15-run rule with a 12-run fourth. Louis Foucaud went 2-for-3 with four RBI. Lilian Amoros and Louis Brainville scored three runs apiece for France. Leo Nontanovanh conceded three hits, two runs and three walks in four innings to pick up the win. Sergei Dudykin got charged with the loss after surrendering six hits, nine runs (5 ER) and five base on balls in 3 2/3 frames.

Classification Round:

Lithuania – Slovenia 16-6 (5)

Lithuania won the first game of the classification round 16-6 against Slovenia on Friday afternoon in Rouen. In the beginning both teams scored at will with Lithuania leading 10-6 after two frames. But afterwards the Lithuania defense kept Slovenia off the board, while their offense continued to score. Pijus Jakimavicius and Andrius Jonatitis scored three runs apiece for Lithuania. Jakimavicius also pitched three scoreless innings in relief for the win. Nik Perko hit an inside the park home run for Slovenia and drove in three runs overall. Zan Primozic got charged with his third loss of the tournament.
