Germany has won the U15 European Championship 2019 in Nettuno, Italy. They defended their title with a 10-3 win over Italy in the final on Saturday evening. It’s the third U15 European Championship for Germany after 2015 and 2017. They have won three of the last four European Championships in that age category. The majority of this year’s roster also won the U12 European Championship in 2016.
It was a close game in the final until Germany erupted for five runs in the top of the sixth thanks to a pair of triples and a home run. Relievers Tim Luca Lindemann and Noah Lindt dominated after starter Bjarne Reinhardt didn’t get out of the first inning. On offense Yannic Walther went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, while Moritz van Bergen and Luca Hörger drove in two apiece.
Germany won all five games during the tournament, defeating Italy also during the group stage. The Netherlands claimed third place in the final standings after shutting out the Czech Republic 3-0 in the bronze medal game on Saturday. By advancing to the final, Germany and Italy already secured spots at next year’s WBSC U15 Baseball World Cup.
