The Czech Republic have won the U12 European Championship in Miesjka Gorka, Poland. They defeated last year’s champion Russia 5-4 in the Gold Medal Game on Saturday to finish the tournament undefeated.
Russia took a 4-0 lead in the second, when Mikhail Kostromin doubled in three runs. But the Czech cut the deficit to a run with three runs in the fifth and got up in front with two in the sixth. A sac fly by Michal Kovala tied the game, a RBI triple by Jan Sabacky won it.
Third place went to France, which defeated Poland 10-1 in the Bronze Medal Game. Nine teams competed overall in the week-long U12 European Championship. Belarus, Lithuania, Romania, Austria and Slovenia finished in fifth to ninth.
