The Bonn Capitals announced a flurry of transactions on Friday. The northern German Baseball-Bundesliga club confirmed rumors that Mirko Heid steps down after four seasons at the helm and will be replaced by Bradley Roper-Hubbert. The American slugger will serve as player-coach. He won the best batter award in the north two seasons in a row. Heid had led Bonn to four consecutive playoff appearances and will most likely remain with the club in a different role.
Additionally they revealed that Trevor Caughey replaces Charley Olson as foreign starting pitcher. The 31-year-old southpaw, a former Minor Leaguer with the Baltimore Orioles, has been playing for the Astros Valencia (Spanish Division de Honor) and Technika Brno (Czech Extraleague) in recent years.
The Caps also officially announced the signing of Spanish infielder Pau Sancho, the return of Rene Wolf and the acquisition of Chris Goebel. Maurice Wilhelm, Daniel Lamb-Hunt, Vincent Ahrens and Florian Nehring will be back. Prospect Sascha Koch will be promoted to the Bundesliga club. Moritz Sckaer (Cologne Cardinals), Philipp Spade and Christian Nsien (retirement) won’t return.
