Posted on July 31, 2021August 3, 2021 by Gabriel Fidler

The knockout stage, including the semifinals, consists of eight games and runs from 1-5 August, with the medal round to follow on 7 August. The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) today announced the official schedule of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Baseball knockout stage, following the conclusion of the six-game opening round Saturday night at Yokohama Stadium. The knockout stage will consist of eight games, to be played from Sunday, 1 August, to Thursday, 5 August. The medal games are scheduled on Saturday, 7 August. All games will be played at Yokohama Stadium.

Round one of the knockout stage is scheduled to start on Sunday, 1 August, with two elimination games: World No. 24 Israel vs. No. 5 Mexico at 12 p.m. (All times JST) and No. 7 Dominican Republic vs. No. 3 Korea at 7 p.m. The winners of the two games will play each other in the quarterfinals. The loser of the Israel-Mexico contest will be knocked out of the tournament, while the Dominican Republic-Korea loser can still make it to the gold medal game with three straight wins out of the loser’s bracket.

The two winners of the opening round, No. 1 Japan (Group A winner) and No. 4 USA (Group B winner), have advanced directly into the quarterfinals and will meet on Monday, 2 August at 7 p.m. The two teams are guaranteed at least a place in the bronze medal game.

The winner of the (visitor) USA-Japan (home) quarterfinal will play in the semifinal (Game 13) on Wednesday, 4 August, at 7 p.m. The second semifinal contest is set for Thursday, 5 August, at 7 pm. After a rest day, the medal round will take place on Saturday, 7 August, with the bronze medal game at 12 pm and gold medal game at 7 pm.
