The application process for the federations, which wish to be added to the programme of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, continues at the end of the week. The eight federations, which had been shortlisted earlier this summer, will travel to Tokyo to meet with the Additional Event Programme Panel. Baseball/Softball and the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) are still the heavy favorite. WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari will head the delegation.
The panel will afterwards decide which sports Tokyo 2020 would like to add to the programme and will submit the list to the IOC. This should happen by September. The IOC then is supposed to approve the programme at the IOC Session in Rio in August of 2016.
Besides the WBSC also World Bowling, World Karate Federation, International Roller Sports Federation, International Federation of Sport Climbing, World Squash Federation, International Surfing Association and International Wushu Federation are hoping for inclusion into the Olympic Programme for 2020.
