After Mattia Salsi and Josh Rickards in the last couple of weeks, Palfinger Reggio Emilia announced a third acquisition on Tuesday. Thomas Di Benedetto Jr. will be their new shortstop. The 25-year-old was born in Salem, Massachusetts, but has recently received an Italian passport. Drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2008 he played two seasons affiliated ball for the organization from New England. Last year he joined the independent league circuit, playing in the Frontier League and Can Am League. His father Thomas R. Di Benedetto is a partner of New England Sport Ventures, which owns the Boston Red Sox. He is also a chairman of the heralded franchise. Together with a group from Boston he is on the verge of becoming the owner of the Serie A soccer club AS Roma. Palfinger Reggio Emilia is going to play in the Serie A of the Federal Championship.
