The Therwil Flyers edged out the Lucerne Eagles 3-2 in the best-of-five final series to win the Swiss Softball Championship. In the pivotal fifth game on Sunday the Flyers prevailed 31-10 in a slugfest. Therwil, which won their last title in 2009, dethroned the Eagles after three consecutive championship runs.
In game five 15 runs in the third decided the outcome and blew the score wide open. Melanie Wagner finished the contest with four hits, five runs and six RBI. Jessica Kijak went 5-for-5 with three runs and four RBI. Jennifer Merrill also drove in six. Four players of the Flyers crossed the plate five times.
