Unfortunately the end of Spring Training is also a time where Minor League players lose their jobs. Dutch infielder Nick Urbanus, just recently ranked in seventh place by scouts and European coaches in Mister-Baseball’s European Top 15 Minor Leaguers, has been released by the Texas Rangers at the end of last week.
He was the first European player signed by the Rangers organization. The 23-year-old signed in 2011 and made his professional debut the same year. He reached Single A in 2012, but didn’t move up further afterwards. In 212 games in the Minors he batted .226/.292/.284 with 98 runs and 62 RBI. He also stole 23 bases.
No word yet if he is going to return to Europe.
