The Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz have won the Spanish cup, the “Copa de su Majestad el Rey”. They beat Baseball Navarra 6-5 in the championship game on Sunday. One day earlier the two teams had eliminated CB Sant Boi and the FC Barcelona in the semi-finals. With winning the trophy the Marlins also clinched a spot in next year’s European Cup tournaments.

After both teams had scored once in the first three innings, Puerto Cruz took a 6-1 lead midway through the fifth inning. Navarra was able to cut the deficit with two-run rallies in the fifth and sixth, but couldn’t tie the game afterwards. Lesther Galvan hit a three-run homerun in the fourth. Inaki Alfonso went deep for Navarra.

On the mound Leslie Nacar (W) pitched a complete game, allowing five runs (4 ER) on nine hits, while striking out seven. He threw 127 pitches. He already had gone 1 2/3 innings on Saturday. Hector Perozo (L) took the loss, conceding six hits, five runs and four bb in four innings. He was replaced by Andres Casado who did an impressive job, giving up just one unearned on two hits in the remaining five frames.

Game for Third Place, August 8:

FC Barcelona – CB Sant Boi 7-4

The FC Barcelona finally was able to beat CB Sant Boi in an official, although pretty much meaningless game. After four losses in the Division de Honor, Barca celebrated a 7-4 victory in the bronze medal game on Sunday morning. Three runs in the bottom of the fourth decided the outcome. Emmanuel Febles drove in three. Oscar Angulo went 3-for-4. Lowin Sacramento (W) issued three hits, four runs and three bb in five innings for the win. Ruben Fente (L) allowed six runs on eight hits and two bb in 3 1/3 innings for the loss.

Semi-Finals, August 7:

CB Sant Boi – Baseball Navarra 1-2

A strong performance by Juan Jose Lopez (W) on the mound and back-to-back homeruns by Larry Infante and Hector Perozo in the eighth lifted Baseball Navarra on Saturday to a 2-1 win over reigning Spanish champion CB Sant Boi and into the finals. Lopez went the distance and allowed just three hits, a run and three bb in nine innings. He struck out five. Marc Carrillo had put Sant Boi in front with a solo homerun in the second. Jose Estebin Cruz (L) struck out seven in 7 1/3 innings, giving up seven hits, two runs and five walks.
