Chinese Taipei needed a two-out RBI-double in the bottom of the ninth by Chih-Kang KAO to defeat Chinatrust Whales 2-1. It was their first victory in three tries against Chinese Professional Baseball League squads.
Whales took a 1-0 lead in the third against Taiwan’s starter Chih-Jia CHANG, who showed nonetheless a strong effort during his four innings of work. Tseh-Hsuen LIN eventually tied the game in the sixth through a solo-homerun. The score remained at 1-1 until KAO’s hit in the ninth.
The offensive struggles for the Qualifier host contiuned as they managed just one hit through the first four frames against the American starter Steve WATKINS.
Reliever Jia-Ren LUO received the win, throwing nine pitches in a perfect ninth, striking out a pair.
