According to Baseball.it T&A San Marino has added the 29-year-old right-hander Alvaro Enrique Montes Castillo to the pitching staff. He already made his debut during a preseason game against Telemarket Rimini last weekend. Born in Colombia he is expected to receive an Italian passport in the next couple of days due to marriage and will be eligible to split time on the mound with Tiago Da Silva in game two each week.
Montes already pitched in the Italian Baseball League in 2005 and 2006, when he was with Parma. He has a 14-10 record with an ERA of 2.31 in 29 appearances in his IBL career. He has struck out 139 batters in 187 1/3 innings, walking 78. He is coming from the Serie A2 club in Bollate. During the 2009 season he had a 5-7 record and an ERA of 2.76 in 13 starts. He collected 69 strikeouts in 91 1/3 innings, walking 27.
