The BERN CARDINALS will defend their title in Swiss Baseball against the THERWIL FLYERS in a best-of-five championship series, which is slated to begin on Saturday in Therwil. Actually all five games will be played in the small town just outside of Basel, due to the sanctions by the Swiss Baseball and Softball Federation against the CARDINALS and the LAUSANNE INDIANS following game three of the semi-final series between these two teams.
BERN has won the last four championships in Switzerland and hopes for the five-peat. THERWIL last won the title in 2003 and is playing in its first finals since 2004. The FLYERS won three of the four games during the regular season and finished in first place with a 23-5 record. The CARDINALS were in third with 21 wins in 28 games. Both clubs had to got the distance during the semi-finals. THERWIL defeated the ZURICH CHALLENGERS, while BERN won last year’s finals rematch against LAUSANNE.
