The Bern Cardinals completed a three-game sweep over the Therwil Flyers on Sunday to win their eighth championship in the Swiss Nationalliga A. At home at the Allmend in Bern, the Cards prevailed 8-7 in a decisive third match of the best-of-five series, as player-coach John Baum hit a crucial three-run homerun to pace his club to the win. Bern had won 6-4 and 5-3 against the Flyers in the first two games of the series last weekend. BJ Roper-Hubbert hit two homeruns for Therwil, but it was not enough to change the outcome of the game. His teammate Reto Siegel retired following the contest from his active career as center fielder for Therwil.
