The Australian Baseball League is starting into the 2016/2017 season this coming weekend. Two European pitchers will be on the rosters of two of the six ABL teams.
German right-hander Sven Schueller of the Los Angeles Dodgers organization is going to play for the Sydney Blue Sox. He is following the footsteps of Jan-Niclas Stoecklin of the Mainz Athletics, who pitched for Sydney last year. The 20-year-old spent the 2016 season with the Ogden Raptors. He went 2-0 with an ERA of 4.28 in 15 games (one start). He struck out 19 and walked 11 in 27.1 innings pitched.
Meanwhile 32-year-old right-hander Loek van Mil from the Netherlands is returning to the Adelaide Bite for a second straight season. Last year he had an ERA of 2.93 with Adelaide. This summer he spent some time with the Minnesota Twins Triple-A affiliate in Rochester before returning to the Dutch Hoofdklasse.
