Big surprise on a Sunday afternoon: The technical commission of the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB) informed that the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe will represent the German Baseball and Softball Federation (DBV) in the A-Pool of the 2011 European Cup instead of reigning German champion Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg.
Last year’s runner up in the European Champions Cup is taking the spot at the European Cup in Amsterdam, Netherlands, which will be held from June 1 to June 5. Heidenheim was supposed to play and host a European Cup Qualifier, basically a B-Pool tournament. However now the Solingen Alligators, which were ranked third in the final standings, will take over and organize the event from May 30 to June 4.
The updated official game schedules will be published soon. We haven’t heard yet, why Regensburg has decided against playing in the European Cup in 2011. But we’ll hope to have the reasoning in a couple of days. Not other changes were reported. The second A-Pool European Cup will be held in Parma, Italy.
