The Superfund Wanderers (18-4) will be looking to capture the Austrian Baseball League regular season title when the Dornbirn Indians (10-12) visits this weekend. The Wanderers won both games against the Union Kufstein Vikings last week, 11-4 and 9-6.
The Indians desperately need two wins against the league leaders to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. Dornbirn playoff aspirations took a huge hit last weekend as the Vienna Metrostars (17-5) denied the Indians a pair of crucial victories, 4-3 and 12-6.
The Metrostars will battle Union Kufstein (12-10) in a game pitting two playoff-bound squads. Vienna has clinched a playoff berth and can win the regular season championship with two wins over the Vikings and if the Wanderers lose their final two games. The team lost pitcher Lance BEUS last weekend due to a shoulder injury.
The Vikings need one win or a loss by Dornbirn to earn the league’s final playoff berth. Union Kufstein has dropped three games in a row while the Indians have lost two straight.
In other Austrian Baseball League action this weekend, the Tulln Santo Ravens (2-20) will face the Stock City Cubs (4-18). The Ravens have lost eight straight games and need a sweep to escape the league cellar. Stock City have dropped 12 straight after losing two two games to the Mosquito Athletics last week.
hi!
you mixed up some names:
Wanderers Coach Wolfgang STRINI rested ace pitcher Walter STRASSER and relied on Philipp DRESSLER to win Game 1. In the second game, Christoph SCHWECHERL started for Superfund who got homers from Martin RABENGRUBER and Dave BURNS.
all of them are athlethics-players, not wanderers…
