The Czech Republic have won the first edition of the Super 6 Softball tournament in Hoofddorp, Netherlands. They defeated the Netherlands 1-0 on Saturday morning to conclude the preliminary phase with a perfect 5-0 record. They would have met Italy in the final in the evening, but weather caused a cancellation of the final, giving the Czech Republic first place based on the standings in the preliminary round.
Veronika Peckova of the Czech Republic was named MVP and Best Pitcher in the tournament, going 4-0 with a save and an ERA of 0.55 in five appearances. She struck out 45 and walked only four in 25 2/3 dominant innings. Amanda Fama of Italy was named Best Batter.
Great Britain stunned the Netherlands in the Bronze Medal Game by a score of 3-2. Greece finished in fifth place after a 5-4 win over Russia.
