On day two at the Super 6 Softball tournament in Hoofddorp, Netherlands on Wednesday four games were on the schedule. Italy and the Czech Republic celebrated two wins apiece with the Czech staying undefeated as the lone team in the tournament so far.

The Czech Republic erased an early 0-3 deficit against Russia to prevail 5-4 in the morning game on Wednesday. Lucie Halakucova tripled and drove in two runs for the Czech team. Verdzhina Gusakova had a bases clearing double for Russia in the first. Veronika Peckova struck out eight in three innings of relief to pick up the win. Vera Kukharenko took the loss.

In the early afternoon game Italy shut out Great Britain 6-0 in seven innings. Illaria Cacciamani conceded only a first-inning double in seven otherwise perfect innings to lead the way. She struck out eight. Erika Piancastelli hit a two-run home run and drove in three overall for Italy. Amanda Fama went 3-for-3 with a pair of triples and two runs scored. Carling Hare got charged with the loss.

The Czech Republic celebrated their third one-run win in three games in the Super 6 with a 6-5 win over Greece in the late afternoon game. A pair of three-run frames gave them a 6-1 lead after two innings, but the Greek squad rallied to cut the deficit to one run in the sixth inning. Veronika Peckova entered the game for the Czech Republic in the sixth to get the last five outs to earn the save. Martina Blahova got the win, Chelsea Runyon the loss.

Italy improved to 2-1 with a thrilling 4-3 win over arch rival Netherlands in the evening game on Wednesday. After the Dutch team took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth, Italy answered with a two-out single by Marta Gasparotto in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game, sending the game to extra innings. In the eighth, the Netherlands couldn’t score in the top of the frame, Italy then won it on a walk-off RBI single by Alessandra Rotondo. Virginie Anneveld drove in two for the Netherlands.
