The Softball tournament at the Super 6 in Hoofddorp, Netherlands started on Tuesday with three games. The Czech Republic stunned Italy in the early afternoon games. Afterwards Great Britain and the Netherlands also celebrated wins.

Veronika Peckova was at her best, striking out 13 batters in a seven-inning gem to lead the Czech Republic to a 3-2 win over Italy, their first since 2010. She allowed only four hits and two runs (1 ER), while not walking a batter. Italy tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth, but the Czech team answered with two more in the sixth. Italy rallied in the last frame, but wasn’t able to come back again. Ludmilla Kucerkova, Veronika Klimpova and Adela Wiessova scored the three decisive runs for the Czech. Laura Vigna and Amanda Fama crossed the plate for Italy. Greta Cecchetti struck out nine in 5 2/3 innings, but had to settle for the loss.

Great Britain scored three runs in the second and four in the fifth to beat Greece 7-3 in the late afternoon contest in Hoofddorp. Amie Hutchison conceded only two hits, an unearned run and a walk in five innings to pick up the win. She also added a two-run triple at the plate. Lauren Evans drove in four of the seven runs, three through a bases clearing double in the second. Efthimia Marinakis took the loss, surrendering six hits, three runs and two base on balls in four innings.

After three relatively close innings, the Dutch team erupted for five runs each in the fourth and fifth to blow by Russia 13-1. Dinet Oosting was a double shy of the cycle, going 4-for-4 with a home run, a triple and three RBI. Jessie van Aalst scored three runs. The Netherlands used five different pitchers in the game with Eva Voortman striking out the side in the third to pick up the win. Yulia Maslova got charged with the loss.
On Wednesday four games are on the schedule. The Czech and Italian teams will take the field twice. The Czech Republic faces Russia and Greece, while Italy takes on Great Britain and the Netherlands.
