The weather played some havoc with the schedule on day four of the Super 6 Baseball tournament in Hoofddorp, Netherlands on Friday. With rain already leading to a short delay during Belgium’s narrow win over Germany and the wind blowing hard during Italy’s home run derby win over the Czech Republic, the matchup of the undefeated teams from the Netherlands and Spain in the evening got stopped in the second inning and will resume play on Saturday.

Belgium celebrated a 7-6 win over Germany to pick up their first win in the Super 6 on Friday morning. They erased a quick 2-0 lead by Germany and led 7-2 after seven innings. Germany made things interesting in the end with four combined runs in the eighth and ninth. But Belgium recovered and secured the victory. Brothers Cedric and Kevin Desmedt split time on the mound for Belgium. Thomas De Wolf and Dennis De Quint hit home runs. De Quint collected four hits overall. Maik Ehmcke went deep for Germany, which remains winless in four games. Sascha Koch got charged with the loss.

Italy hit nine home runs in a 25-10 blowout against the Czech Republic in the afternoon game on Friday. Chris Collabello and Alex Liddi combined for nine hits, five home runs, eight runs scored and ten RBI. Giuseppe Mazzanti, Robel Garcia, Alberto Mineo and Nicola Garbella also hit home runs. Matej Hejma and Jakub Malik went deep for the Czech Republic. Malik drove in five. Carlos Teran earned the win in relief. Boris Bokaj took the loss.
The preliminary round at the Super 6 Baseball tournament ends on Saturday with four games. In the morning at 11am Italy and Spain will play on field two, while Germany and the Czech Republic take field one. At 3pm in the afternoon Spain and the Netherlands resume play of their postponed game from Friday. In the evening the Netherlands take on Belgium at 7pm. The final is scheduled for Sunday at 1.30pm.
