The Stuttgart Reds have signed 28-year-old Californian Eric Massingham for the 2015 season. He replaces Nick Renault as foreign starting pitcher for game two each week in the German Baseball-Bundesliga.
Following a brief minor league career with the Philadelphia Phillies organization Massingham played in several independent leagues and in the Australian Baseball League. In the 2013 Asia Series he wore the jersey of the Canberra Cavalry, where he pitched four scoreless innings in the final.
Last year he split time between Evansville in the Frontier League and Southern Maryland in the Atlantic League. He went 2-4 with an ERA of 4.86 in 52 games (no starts). He struck out 41 and walked 14 in 50 innings. Overall he has an ERA of 3.03 throughout his professional baseball career.
