GB Women’s Team player Stacie Townsend, a senior at the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) has named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for the week of February 15-21.
Stacie, who won the Most Valuable Player award at the 2009 European Championships in leading Great Britain to a silver medal, now becomes the first player in the history of her school to win the NFCA Player of the Week honour.
The award came the day after Stacie was voted Hitter and Pitcher of the Week in her college Conference.
Amazing Stats
During the week beginning February 15, Stacie led the UTEP Miners to a perfect 6-0 record, including a 5-0 mark at the QTI Getterman Classic tournament in Waco, Texas to lift the tean to a 7-3 record for the season.
Stacie went 7-for-13 (.538) at the plate with six extra-base variety hits. She had 13 RBI, drew 10 walks and struck out just once in her 13 at-bats. In addition, she scored nine runs, slugged a team-high 1.182 and registered an on-base percentage of .667.
Stacie became UTEP’s all-time career home run leader when she blasted her fourth home run of the season against Tulsa to tally 26 for her career.
And Stacie was just as effective on the rubber, claiming another UTEP record after registering 16 strikeouts against Central Arkansas in the opening game of the QTI Getterman Classic. She collected all six of UTEP’s victories during the week and struck out 49 opposing hitters while giving up only nine walks in 31.0 innings pitched and posting three shutout victories in as many days.
World Championships
Stacie Townsend will rejoin the GB Women’s Team in June for a training camp in Florida before the team flies to Caracas, Venezuela for the ISF Women’s World Championships, to be played from June 23-July 2.
In the meantime, she’ll be adding to a number of all-time UTEP records as she plays out her final college season.
Stacie has also won a number of academic and student-athlete honours, as she completed her four-year Business Administration course at UTEP in just three years and finished top of her class.
