Tenerife Marlins host FC Barcelona

Just two weeks are played in the Spanish Division de Honor and we’ll see the first showdown, which could get important for the championship. The Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz host the FC Barcelona for a doubleheader on Saturday. You can follow the two games via live play by play on the RFEBS website with the first pitch being scheduled for 10am CET.

The defending Spanish champion Marlins started with four wins into the season. Starting pitchers Leslie Nacar and Ivan Granados dominate as usual, with just five runs (4 ER) allowed in 27 innings so far. Additionally the offense is already in mid-season form with Richard Montiel and Luis Landaeta batting a combined 17-for-32 with three homeruns, five doubles, twelve runs and 14 RBI. Nguyen Boulet, Lesther Galvan and Nestor Perez also are hitting over .400.

The opener for the FC Barcelona two weeks ago was rained out. They started into the new season last week with two victories over Baseball Navarra. Jason Friedman impressed with 13 strikeouts in game one. However he still could get replaced as starter since Delio Miguel Martinez has arrived and is ready to go. Pedro Belmonte is set for game two. Friedman could reinforce the bullpen in game one, pitching alongside of prospect Oscar Gimenez, who struck out the side in each of his nine-inning appearances last weekend. Also traveling to Puerto Cruz is new shortstop Oscar Angulo, who is expected to make his Barcelona debut against the Marlins.
