After the fusion of three teams to one and the no-eligibility of another club due to field conditions the Spanish Baseball League shrinks from twelve to nine teams in 2008. CD Amaya, CAD Irabia and CD Arga formed a new club, called Navarra Baseball. Hercules L’Hospitalet is not allowed to return this season because of a rule that requires a grass surface in league ballparks. Rivas Ciudad del Deporte from Madrid finished in last place in 2007 and will be replaced by the promoted club Astros Valencia. Due to the uneven number of teams, officials are currently working on a change of the format to straighten out the schedule.
